Getting started: your first steps to a Townopoly fundraiser
The four decisions to make before you sell your first ad space: quantity, delivery date, what goes on each ad, and your sales strategy.

So you have decided to run a Townopoly fundraiser with Opoly Games. Where do you start? These are the first decisions to make so the project goes as smoothly as possible. We recommend talking them through as a group before you sell your first ad space.
1. How many games will you order?
Your ad sales determine how many games you can order, so start by deciding what ad price your group is comfortable asking local businesses to pay. On a 500-game order the average ad spot costs $245; on a 750-game order it is $350. For an extra $105 per sponsor you can order 250 more games to sell, and 250 more households see every ad, which makes the spot more valuable to the advertiser.
So ask yourselves: can we sell ad spots at $350 or more to local businesses? If yes, go up a tier. If not, choose the lower quantity. Those sales cover the entire production cost, so settle on a quantity before your sales campaign starts. The pricing page lists the average ad cost for every quantity.
2. When do you want your games delivered?
We print in batches, roughly six per year, every six to ten weeks. Pick a target delivery date early so you can work backward to your ad deadline, and let us know your batch date and quantity so we can plan the run. Nothing is permanent; you can change it at any time. It simply keeps us both organized.
3. What goes on each ad space?
We recommend each ad include the business's logo, phone number, address, and website. A QR code or a short tagline can work too, but space is limited, so keep it to what matters most. Collect this information from each business as you sell the space and relay it to us so every sponsor is represented exactly as they want. If you have a specific look in mind for the board, you can limit what businesses include. Browse the gallery for design ideas.
4. Plan your sales strategy
A small, organized team of one to four people sells ad spaces fastest. In-person visits, email, and phone calls all work. Coordinate so two members are not calling the same business. With a well-organized group it should not take more than a month to sell every spot.
The pitch is simple: this is a unique, fun way to advertise that reaches more people for less money than most local advertising. On a 500-game order, a $245 ad reaches 500 households, about 49 cents each, and the ad stays on a game residents will play for years.
